The Spot
Editorial
Fridays at The Spot and the focus shifts to funk, soul and R'n'B with cover band, Rumours and a rotation of house DJs serving up the party tunes. Saturdays at this hot Brunswick venue and the music mix is decidedly 80's and 90's with a top forties selection of dance and rock neatly performed by resident party band, Night Version.
The Spot also has a reputation for hearty affordable meals with a kitchen menu providing the regular hotel staple of Fish & Chips, Schnitzel and Bangers and Mash along with a great selection of gourmet pizzas.
Originally known as The Phoenix Hotel, The Spot comes with a political heritage that is the envy of the hotel industry. The building was purchased by the union movement in the early 1970's and named after the then president, R.J. Hawke (Bob Hawke) - not inappropriate given Hawke's love of the brew in his early days. Shortly after the acquisition, the Granddaddy of the modern Labor movement, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam turned up to bless the whole shebang - declaring it the only Union run enterprise in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Spot in Brunswick trades from 3pm to 3am Monday to Thursday, 12 midday to 3am Friday to Saturday and midday to 11pm on Sunday.
