Edinburgh Castle
Editorial
The Castle, as it's known to the locals, consists of three main sections sprawling out over 500 square metres. The front bar's little stage pumps out live music from Wednesday to Sunday. With a merciful no cover band policy, you'll always hear something new and original, whether it's indie, acoustic, folk, dance, jazz, or blues and the Castle have a policy of supporting up-and-coming local bands. Otherwise, the friendly bar staff have a rather huge iTunes library to choose from which features many bands that have graced the stage.
Dinner is served in the main dining room, and there's also a smaller dining room that doubles as a function room. Forget the whole overpriced tiny portioned gastro food that's taking over Melbourne's pubs right now. This is down-to-earth honest pub grub with a twist in huge portions and caters for vegans, vegetarian and gluten free folk. Carnivores can't get enough of the Roo burger in fresh Turkish bread roll and side salad for $16, or the legendary Prosciutto Parmas for $22.
But what I love about this pub is actually the outside. Grab your jug of beer and head outside to the beer garden, where there are all sorts of little nooks and crannies to chill out in - there's even a TV and ping-pong tables!
