Bar Rouge
Editorial
Bar Rouge is part of the ubiquitous Zagame's chain of family entertainment venues that offer something for all comers. The Zagame name is synonymous in Melbourne with hospitality - an attribute that the Zagame family have delivered in spades since 1971 and now, as a testament to their success of their model, run six venues across Victoria and two in Vanuatu.
The Bar Rouge concept is pretty much standard over the Zagame stable and can be relied upon for safe, family-affordable quality experiences. Weather it's Nan's ninieth, Shantelle's surprise twenty first or a cosy twosome you're after, the folk at Bar Rouge are likely to have done it all before and will have the routine down-pat.
Wines 'of the month' feature by the glass ($7) or bottle ($30) and are generally supported by a featured accompaniment such as oysters by the dozen ($25) or half dozen ($13), for example. The decor can safely be described as bland with a 'splash' and might just as suitably be found at your average airport. It's all pitched at middle Australia, and on that level, done very well. To support the bar, a family bistro covers all bases with a menu that delivers classic staples such as pastas, steaks, parmas, pizzas and naturally, a kids menu. In fact, when it comes to kids, Zagame's have you home and hosed with their dedicated kids zone adventure playground and special kids party arrangements.
