This World Heritage listed garden is one of the few surviving precincts of 19th Century industrialisation.

Editorial

Home to the architecturally significant Royal Exhibition Building and the new Melbourne Museum, the World Heritage listed Carlton Gardens are one of the few surviving precincts symbolising the 19th Century achievements of the industrial age. Contrasted with the large number of Morton Bay Fig trees where local Aboriginals traditionally met and socialised, the gardens boast several historical fountains including the Hochgurtel Fountain, two ornamental ponds and the grand avenue of Plane trees leading up to the Exhibition Building dome.

Getting there: From Federation Square walk along Swanston Street to Bourke Street and take tram (85, 95, 96) from Bourke Street.
