Idgaff Bar & Venue
Editorial
As Hoddle Street hums with the constant sound of cars, trucks, buses and motorbikes, a little corner shopfront close to the Collingwood Town Hall offers a refuge that is a world away from the concerns of getting from A to B.
The ruff ‘n’ tumble gruff exterior of Idgaff gives some idea of what you are about to enter – an unpretentious haven for lovers of live music and cold beer. This self-described “lounge room away from home” is a cocktail of eclecticism that draws patrons from all social subsets. It’s a genuine case of water (or maybe scotch) finding its own level where the clientele is as diverse as the many genres of music presented, from reggae, blues, rock, pop, roots to eighties – this bar speaks to a commonality among music lovers. Each night delivers live bands or solo artists, plus an array of events, from album launches to themed music nights.
Bars such as this exist in plentiful numbers in free-thinking cities all over the world. Idgaff is a venue that allows Melbourne to sidle up against like-minded international destinations for the demi-monde.
