Slip into the Metz and slip tasty treats including tapas and wood-fired bread into the gaping hole in your face. It's an experience of tasty wine, friendly dining and fine company.

Editorial

The Metz, in Sandy Bay, is a pit stop of pure understatement. While it could be passed off as just another boutique bar-cum-restaurant, the place has a garnered a nice reputation for being as aesthetically pleasing as it is salubrious. The emphasis here is on providing quality staples and a comfortable environment - something the Metz crew have found the right balance of.

Starting off inside, the main dining area is a collection of modern furniture highlighted with a minimal colour palate. It invites you to relax, stay a while and enjoy your food, as opposed to getting your revved up to scoff your food and hit the bar. Diners and drinkers alike can indulge in the same menus, with a tasty pizza and tapas menu for those after a smaller meal. Beers and wine are standard for a multi-function venue such as this, with the focus more on popular brews and drops rather than exotic options which will sell once a in a blue moon.

Sunday sessions at the Metz are also a bit of an institution with Hobart's younger crowd - a tradition that recently made its way south from the mainland. From 4pm the outdoor deck is the hottest seat in town, with upbeat house and R&B moving the large crowd that gathers. The rest of the week it's more of a casual affair, with piped house music caressing the ears of first daters and friends catching up.
