You may not spot James Bond drinking his martini here, but you’ll be able to soak up the funky old-school Casino atmosphere at the Casino Bar.

Editorial

Remember when Australia only had the one casino? If you do, you maybe older than you want to admit. The Wrest Point Hotel Casino was Australia's first legal casino, opening way back in 1973, and the wonderful thing about this place is that it's a bit like stepping back in time, back to a simpler age.

Located smack-bang in the middle of the gambling action, the Casino Bar sits in the interior of the Casino - a great spot for soaking up the atmosphere. Plasma screens so you can keep up to date on your bets, news or sports seem to be the only concession to modernity. The overall décor seems quite quaint by today's multi-megaplex Casino standards: boldly patterned carpet and polished brass everywhere - a mix of 70's and 80's glam. It's a great place for a quiet drink, a spot of people watching, a spin of the dice or risking it all by putting it all down on black. They don't make casinos like this anymore. There's an eclectic crowd of well-dressed locals, out-of-towners and international visitors. Being one of Hobart's main hotels, you never know who you might meet at the bar.

Beverages include a nice selection of local and imported beers including ale, stouts and pilsner. Mostly Australian and New Zealand wines grace the well-crafted list, and a fruity cocktail menu to blow your socks off.

If you need some sustenance of the foodie kind, there are tidbits at the bar, but head to the Coffee Shop, The Loft Bistro or the Point Revolving Restaurant for more substantial fare.
