The Birdcage Bar
Editorial
And it really is a giant birdcage. The same brass vertical bars that encircle the classic 360 degree, donut-shaped piano bar are still there. Bravo to Wrest Point Casino for not following the fickle vagaries of fashion and creating a Hobart legend. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
The round bar serves a wide range of beers, especially premium Tasmanian brews - a very high quality of amber fluid that this little state can be justifiably proud of. There are also premium wines and champagnes for celebrating that special night with a special friend, or a night out with friends. The great thing about the Birdcage is that it's good for a start of the evening aperitif, but also a great place to end up after a long night of carousing for that one last nightcap before bed. The cocktail list is full of fun signature favourites, and old-school classics, so don't miss the Cocktail Happy Hour from 8pm-9pm every night of the week.
Regular live music consists mostly of jazzy tunes and sometimes just a single piano player, but usually a really good one. If you're lucky, you might spot an international guest quietly tinkling the ivory keys. You may even be inspired to cut the rug on the tiny dancefloor, and it's kind of fun because it only takes a few people to fill it.
No food here, but next door at the Coffee Shop there's late night snacks for the night owls. Also try The Loft Bistro or the Point Revolving Restaurant for more substantial fare.

I was in Hobart a month ago & had a great night at the Birdcage Bar. Had a guy on piano playing all the songs. I,ve been in bars from Hong Kong to Monaco but that night in Hobart was the best for many years!
