Welcome Stranger Hotel
Editorial
The Welcome Stranger Hotel might not be anything special, but it provides clean and comfortable accommodation for travellers on a budget, and the adjacent bar is much the same. Focusing on service and a cheerful ambiance, it's a modern venue divided up into four separate areas; gaming lounge, sports bar, main bar and pool room. Decor across all four areas is straightforward but it gets the job done. The main room features a long traditional bar, some scattered couches and tables, a few posters advertising upcoming promos and, well, that's about it. The other rooms are similarly bereft of extras - if you want pokies and pool, then you got 'em - just don't expect anything fancy.
There's a basic selection of beers on tap and a few imported options can also be found behind the counter. If you're desperate there are a few wines to choose from, but it's really not that sort of venue. You can also forget about cocktails. Light meals (including wood-fired pizza) are available and appropriately priced, i.e. cheap. Music, meanwhile, is provided by a faithful old jukebox in the corner of the room - if you have a pocket full of pennies and the inclination, you can program the night's entertainment yourself. Either way, Welcome Stranger provides cheap and cheerful ambiance, popular with locals and sightseers alike.
