The Quarry Salamanca

With enough imported beer to sink a Spanish galleon and a tapas menu of divine proportions, The Quarry Salamanca is a bluestone haven for the libertines and lushes of Hobart.

Editorial

Melding rustic touches with contemporary design, the Quarry provides an upmarket opportunity to sample some of Tasmania's finest wines. Housed in a converted warehouse space, this mix of restaurant and bar specialises in locally produced reds. There are over 70 wines available by the bottle and a good percentage of those come from local vineyards. If you're after something a little stronger, the Quarry Apple Martini should get that monkey off your back.

Whichever option you go with, the front bar is relaxed and spacious. Sandstone walls offset the ultra -modern long bar nicely and the whole place is given a warm hue thanks to the sedate, modern lighting. Exposed beams and a treated industrial floor reinforce this marriage of old and new. If you're looking to get some crisp Tasmanian air, there's also a heated courtyard with its own bar.

Although it's only a couple of years old, the Quarry has already established itself as both a popular restaurant and a great place to saddle up for a drink on cold winter nights. Walking that fine line between rustic Tasmanian charm and cosmopolitan cocktail lounge, it's a welcome addition to region's bar scene.
