Set sail for The Atrium bar in Hobart's Grand Chancellor Hotel for stunning views of Constitution Dock.

Editorial

The Atrium Bar has earned a spot in Hobart's long nautical history, being the destination for rich yet probably tired and sweaty boat owners immediately post the famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race. As such, gallons of bubbly gets put away in honour of such grand seafaring adventure. In short, it's a little bit posh. Indeed, the term posh allegedly derives from nautical terminology, as an acronym for Port Out, Starboard Home i.e. first class travellers.

The bar's located on the ground floor of the Grand Chancellor Hotel on Davy Street, and almost the entire venue is one giant window, from floor, to wall to ceiling, overlooking Hobart's beautiful Constitution Dock. As such, it's the ideal spot to watch the sun go down over the water, as bottle after bottle of wine gets washed away. It's not quite as fantastic as it should be, suffering from the hotel curse of the bar leading directly off of the foyer. Instantaneous intimacy death.

The beautiful crowd doesn't seem to mind too much, and the inoffensive marble finish with cream, beige and brown carpets and seating is certainly classy if not inspirational. It really is all about the view, and my goodness, what a view it is. So posh it up for a night and make the most of that splendid panorama.
