A cool drink and fresh oysters while watching Hobart’s magnificent marina activity – what could be better?

Editorial

Hobart was once known as a sleepy town with not much going on for the night owls. Oh my, how things have changed! Now, the choices of where one can imbibe are varied and wondrous. However, staples such as Tavern 42 Degrees South (known as T42 by the locals) still provide one of the best drinking experiences on the Apple Isle.

Tavern 42 Degrees South is located on Elizabeth Street Pier on Hobart's waterfront. Simple blue chairs with wooden tables and retro vinyl blue couches are offset by artworks that provide additional colour. Of course, the blue and white décor fits in suitably with the nautical surrounds.

Best to lunch here, or come early evening, so you can make the most of the view. There's nothing quite like watching those majestic yachts to trigger that wanderlust. Perhaps that's why locals and tourists flock here alike.

An extensive wine list means you could be here for a while. For a truly sublime experience, take a seat out on the deck, order a glass of champers and a dozen oysters. Then settle in and take a few hours to plan your next voyage - chances are though, you'll just want to end up somewhere like Tavern 42 Degrees South.
