Shamrock Hotel
Editorial
The blazing fireplace is a nice treat for those cold Hobart nights, and the overall style is early last century pub. In fact, The Shamrock has had a license since 1823 - making it the oldest continuous license in Australia. It would be a shame to tart this old lady up too much, so thankfully they've held off on the stainless-steel-and-white-marble renovations. Instead you are surrounded by leadlight windows, polished floorboards, and cosy, but dimly lit rooms.
There's a plethora of favourites on tap, including (of course) the entire Cascade range, and what would a pub with a name like The Shamrock be without fresh Guinness on tap? Good quality Australian, New Zealand and Tasmanian wines are also available by the glass or bottle. For tucker, there are high quality Australian beefsteaks, and also standard pub food like chicken parma and the hearty beef and Guinness pie.
