Petite Toulouse

A French cafe that would make Victor Hugo proud, offering Parisian treats in a delightful setting.

Editorial

It is rare to find a place that makes real butter croissants like those found in Parisian patisseries. The croissants at Petite Toulouse are delectably light in the centre, crisp and flaky on the outside, and release a buttery fragrance only real croissants can muster. The pastry chef, Anthony Young, has been here for more than 10 and his are the delicate hands entrusted with folding and refolding the croissant pastry 'till it reaches perfection.

The inventive egg nest is one of the cafe’s most recognised treats: an egg topped with cheese, spinach or tomato, wrapped with prosciutto and lightly baked. The menu is comforting and simple, offering a lot of choice (and all-day breakfast) with a minimum of fuss. French delights are showcased alongside award-winning Oomph! Coffee and a wide selection of hot food, sandwiches and salads are also available. The French magazines littered among the daily papers are a nice touch, as is the hot pouring chocolate (served with a dash of cinnamon or chilli). The 15-seat dining area is the perfect place to gather for Sunday brunch, although the cafe also offers takeaway and catering options. In fact, Petite Toulouse offers home delivery, and should you need to impress guests with your “homemade” cooking they will even fill up your own casserole dish with their wares.

Food was excellent but following a complaint for a DUPLICATED error with the order, the manageress was rude. Disappointing. Staff seem unhappy to be there - so atmosphere tainted too.
