Not just the city of churches, Adelaide’s also home to a state-of-the-art centre that makes learning about wine almost as much fun as drinking it.
Editorial
Situated at the edge of Adelaide's beautiful Botanical Gardens, The National Wine Centre provides up-to-the-minute information on wine and is a centre for community education. Here you can not only enjoy wine and winemaking from the ground up, but the interactive Wine Discovery Journey showcases the complete wine experience from seed to glass. All secrets are revealed with tastings and activities that will improve your knowledge and enhance your enjoyment of Australia's many wonderful wine styles, whether you're a novice or a full-fledged wine connoisseur. You can even try your hand at virtual wine making or speak with a winemaker through the interactive computer hologram displays. Housed in a stunning piece of architecture, the centre is not only eye-catching and entirely unique but is an exciting tourism venue that showcases the entire Australian wine industry.
Open daily for wine tastings and tempting food, relax in the Concourse Cafe and enjoy a meal from the seasonal a la carte menu or simply an espresso to clear the palate, while taking in the gorgeous Botanical Garden views. Another feature of the Centre is its hectare of vineyards featuring some 500 vines, including some of the most important varieties in the Australian wine industry. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Semillon and Riesling are all featured; however pride of place goes to Shiraz which has the greatest number of vines thanks to its international reputation for being Australia's finest. The National Wine Centre also offers a variety of comprehensive and short courses taught by some of the country's best wine educators.
