The White Dove Restaurant

places|sa|port%20noarlunga|the%20white%20dove%20restaurant
The White Dove Restaurant in McCloud House at Port Noarlunga was built in the late 1920's. The magnificent site overlooks the sea and jetty which leads out to the beautiful reef. It's homely atmosphere and character of yesteryear is captured by it's wooden jarrah floor and the open fireplace.

We have had one of the worst dining experiences at this restaurant. The service was absolutely shocking. We booked and were one of the first to be seated and wanted to take advantage of the dinner and movie, thinking that we might get through our meal reasonably quickly. We finally got our drinks 45min after we were seated, entrees 1 hour. By 1.5hrs waiting for mains, we left after paying for what we had. There were only 2 staff out the front with a full restaurant. The owner was extremely rude & arrogant even from the moment we got there, showing us the table then turning her back straight away. The whole time menus were thrown on the table behind us. While we were waiting friends of the owners came in and were miraculously served entrees mains and drinks and left within the hour. They seem to rest on their laurels of awards received over 10years ago, I can see why they have not received any recently. Rest assured we will never return to the White Dove Port Noarlunga.

I had a similar experience April 2009) to Scott (January 2009). We arrived, a party of 3, after booking ahead. There was only one other group (of 10) in the restaurant while we were there, another couple had left as we arrived. There is seating for at least another 20 people inside the restaurant and more outside. The service was very slow even with this light customer load. During popular times it would be unbearable. We did not get our orders taken for more than 20 minutes after arrival and no attention seemed to be payed to the other party either. We didn't order entrees, only mains. One of our three meals arrived after the first two were consumed and the extra rice which the waitress (the owner, I assume) recommended we order was never delivered. I wasn't given an itemised bill, but I believe we were charged for the rice. I wasn't going to argue over the 4$, we just left. Promising location, fair food, abysmal service. I also will never go back.
