An historic long-stayer with a modern heart.

Editorial

The Queen's Head Hotel is considered to be the oldest hotel in Adelaide, having been operating in the same premises since it was first licensed on 17 July 1838. It may be the oldest pub in town, however, this by no means restricts its ability to turn on an absolutely modern attitude.

Having recently undergone an interior overhaul, the Queen's Head looks sharp and has a food and wine menu to match. Its North Adelaide position means that the hotel attracts a certain type of local. Whether it be the residents of the private university boarding houses that are dotted around nearby, the staff of the many nearby medical rooms or the North 'Adelaidiens' that call the place their local, the patrons are often as polished as the bar tops.

The menu hovers around the $10 mark for starters, a few dollars either side of $25 for mains and around $12 for desserts. Expect a diverse and inventive menu selection (how does orange-scented churros with spiked hot chocolate sound?) and an equally great wine list to wash it all down. Nightly bar menu specials are also offered. Its proximity to the iconic Adelaide Oval means that the Queens Head may get a bit raucous post-match but it's certainly no beer barn. A quaint and sophisticated appeal is evident from the moment you set eyes upon the heritage bluestone exterior that protects a modern club-lounge style interior.
