North Star Hotel
Editorial
Resting right at the foot of Mount Remarkable sits the North Star Hotel. And like its namesake, this hotel is a reliable beacon if you ever wish to find your way to a home of fine wines and old-fashioned hospitality. Yes, despite some of the other bars and clubs you might have been to recently, hospitality does still exist. What makes this hotel special is that the wines they serve come from the Bundaleer winery, located right out the back.
The wines on offer come straight from the winery's cellar door - be that a medium-bodied Shiraz, Riesling (disappearing from more venues than you realise) or the ever-popular Sparkling Shiraz. This makes it the perfect reason to load up a group of friends (with a designated driver) and settle in for an afternoon of wine tasting. Just make sure you keep your shoes on: only staff are allowed to crush the grapes, no matter how much you plead.
The bar itself has stayed true to its historic origins. The bar top is hewn from red gum, while the floors themselves are recycled stringbark. Take a peek at the table bases and guess what they're made of. That's if you can take your mouth away from your glass long enough ?
