Maylands Hotel
Editorial
As far as revamps go, the all-new Maylands Hotel is a seriously impressive effort. While most pubs are happy to slap around a bit of paint and buy some new chairs, the proprietors of this 1883 venue have really gone to town. Iconic features like the chandeliers, ornate ceilings and cosy staircases have been paired with traditional leather furniture, striking feature walls and dramatic lighting to create one of Adelaide's best looking venues. Everything old is new again.
The hotel offers a wealth of drinking and dinning options with three bars, two dinning rooms and an outdoor area. Onyx may be the sports bar, but it's among the city's plushest. The Ivory Lounge is an 'all leather armchairs and a stiff brandy over business meetings' kind of affair. Drinks are pitched towards the top end of town and you'll find a selection of top-shelf liquors, wines and cocktails on offer. Naturally, the beer selection features a lot of imported options. If you are looking to sit down for a meal the two restaurants offer an upmarket setting and prices to match - the wagyu beef and lobster both hit the $80 mark.
Still, if you're looking for an upmarket hotel then Maylands is hard to beat. It might be pricey, but the quality is apparent throughout.
