Vego & Love'n It

places|sa|adelaide|vego%20%26%20love'n%20it
The name says it all, with vegie meals served in an eclectic space full of quirky knick-knacks. The burgers and other Western-style meals provide hearty options for hungry meat-o-phobes.

Editorial

The earthiest two person cafe you'll find anywhere on Rundle Street, Vego and Loven' It has held strong for its fans. Dressing table-style dining in front of mirrors and knick knacks may alarm some visitors, as multi-coloured mosaics and plastic flowers overwhelm the tiny space. But most folks find plenty to amuse and entertain themselves with among the happy, hippy, kitsch decor which strangely juxtaposes the earthy menu. Fortunately the local brown rice set know they are in the right place when they see the glitter and colours greet them at the top of the stairs, leading to the dining room that overlooks Rundle Street.

Vego and Loven' It is a stayer. Unlike some new age chains and health food outlets, Vego is a no fuss address for those who truly want fresh, tasty and well-presented burgers, juices, generous salads and soups. Serving vegetarian food that fills you up and is fun to eat, Vego keeps the formula simple. Be it the tempeh burger with carrot, alfalfa, beetroot, soy mayo, lettuce and tomato on a rye bun, or the spiced lentil soup - each dish is wholesome and delicious. Stuff yourself with huge salad plates and sandwiches, or pop upstairs for a quick half bowl of soup with toasted garlic rye. This is an easy place to eat by yourself or a fine venue for lunch with two or three friends. The small room is not suited to large groups and the wait time can be a pain for larger orders, but the low prices and friendly staff more than make up for it.

It's OK. Some people were very unfriendly when I was there in 2006. They thought they owned the world. The owner is friendly. I had to go back to Italy before falling in love with the waitress there.
