Universal Wine Bar offers over 300 bottles of red and genuine old world charm.

Editorial

Universal Wine Bar was founded in 1991 by Australia's very first Master of Wine, Michael Hill-Smith. Twenty years on, it remains an Adelaide favourite - a bar and restaurant renowned for its live jazz, relaxed ambiance and the 300 different wine options stocked in the cellar. Although wine forms the cornerstone of the experience, you don't have to be a connoisseur to feel at home. The bar staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, and there's an extensive list of quality wines you can sample by the glass. That said, the drinks menu has been extended since the launch and these days you'll find a full accompaniment of spirits, beers and cocktails on offer.

Whatever you're drinking, Universal Wine Bar is a lovely setting for alcohol-fuelled conversations. With its European bistro meets Adelaide charm, the venue has a real old-world feel. The live jazz bands that play in the evenings only add to this. Whether you're looking to sample some rare wines, enjoy a cocktail or simply eat a quality meal in a rustic setting, Universal Wine Bar is well worth a look.
