Savvy Bar & Lounge
Editorial
House music may have gone through countless mutations since its inception in the late '80s, but the basics remain pretty much unchanged: a 4/4 beat, girls in shimmery dresses, nightclubs and champagne. It's a timeless combination, one that Adelaide's Savvy Bar and Lounge excels at.
Open Friday through to Sunday, this house-music Mecca attracts a young and attractive crowd. We wouldn't normally comment about the appearance of patrons, but it's something Savvy prides itself on. Cocktails are another highlight - although it's more nightclub than bar, there's a real commitment to cocktails. Granted, they're pitched at the female clientele, but a good cocktail is a good cocktail. Alternatively, there's a nice selection of local and imported beers. Or you can simply get the bartender to line up the shots for you and your friends.
The venue has been revamped significantly in recent years and the front room has a relaxed, casual elegance. The club lounge out the back is another story. Consisting of a DJ booth and dancefloor, it's basically wall-to-wall patrons once the night gets going. In other words, this is not the place for serious talk and whisky. If, however, you're looking to shimmy, Savvy Bar and Lounge has the booze, the people and club tracks.
