Prince Albert Hotel
Editorial
The Prince Albert is typical of Victorian-era corner pubs. Built by German settlers to Adelaide in 1852, it features a traditional two-story set-up. All of this has been lovingly restored over the years and the current incarnation is a favourite with locals. Much like the external facade, the interior retains the premise's old-world charms while dragging things into the 21st century. Granted, there's only so much you can do with a polished wood bar and some bar stools, but the front room is inviting and casual, melding traditional elements with modern furnishings, plus a couple of pinball tables for good measure. If you're after more than pub counter meals there's also an entirely separate bistro serving contemporary Australian cuisine.
The drinks selection is what you would expect from an boutique pub and takes in a good selection of locally produced, premium wines alongside top-shelf spirits. There's also a variety of local and imported beer on hand. As far as local pubs go, the Prince Albert ticks all the right boxes. It might not be reinventing the experience, but it's a consistent effort all round.
