Mesa Lunga
Editorial
Mesa Lunga means 'long table' in Spanish and Italian, a tradition this Adelaide bar and restaurant upholds. Step inside and the first thing you'll notice is, yes, they have a very long table in the centre of the room just for communal dining. Just as well - it could be a bit awkward otherwise. The rest of the decor is a mix of dark timbers and white walls, antler chandeliers and plush, leather armchairs. If anything, it seems based on a more northern-European aesthetic, one that's been funnelled via contemporary Australian design elements. It looks lovely, and the room has been set up to encourage a communal atmosphere.
On that note, the menu favours a tapas approach. Like the seating, it's all about bringing people together. If you need some help in that regard, the wine selection is ridiculous. The wine list (literally) runs for pages and pages, taking in every variety and region you can think of. The rest of the drinks menu is just as impressive; the whisky list is seriously impressive and the cocktail options are among Adelaide's best. Mesa Lunga may be a little innocuous from the outside, but with its plush interior design and wonderful wine list it's definitely a place to call your second home.
