Editorial

A mere five minute stroll from North Terrace (descend along Kintore Avenue to the Torrens River) Jolley's Boathouse is rich both in history and old fashioned charm. Originally built to house rowing skiffs, the creaky wooden boathouse was converted into tearooms in the 1950s, then reborn as a divine riverside restaurant in 1987. Since then Adelaide has been enamoured with the restaurant's proud view of the river and wholesome use of local produce. Worth savouring is the moist pineapple and ginger pudding served with liquorice ice-cream, a dessert worth working your way towards.

Almost seamless views of the Torrens River are provided by the floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap the dining area, on sunny days these windows have the pleasant side effect of bathing the dining room in sunlight, should you eschew the outdoor areas for somewhere a bit more protected from the elements. The white-painted timber rafters and the old brick floor is in contrast to the modern cuisine, alive with flashes of inspiration like the spiced duck in Tunisian brik pastry, matched with a colourful salad of harissa, dates, orange segments and watercress. Embark on all three courses with the conviction that the steep climb back to North Terrace will work off the calories.

Visiting from the Uk and found the dining experience absolutely supurb. The food quality and service were far better than expected, and a real feel of genuine warmth from the staff, well done Jolleys!

Delicious food and delightful atmosphere but what left a bad taste in our mouths was our rude waiter. We read this to be a "family friendly" place but our 10 year old and 8 month old were treated like second class citizens. There wasn't even a change table.

Don't go to this restaurant for dinner. No view no ambience, half the tables filled with "pretenders". Service was good, but in a restaurant charging this much they should learn how to make a medium rare fillet, one of the easiest dishes around. They murdered it! Go maybe at lunch and order some thing sloppy, the cooks might be able to deal with that!!!!
