Georges on Waymouth
Editorial
Everything about this beautiful Italian restaurant suggests close attention to detail. The large, spacious interior with wooden floorboards and high ceilings contains rows of white linen-clad tables under low lighting. The stark white walls contrast nicely with the wooden bar and the wine racks clustered in one corner. Charming owner George Kasimatis knows his clientele by name and is there to ensure you enjoy every ounce of your experience. Savour the classy Italian fare among a mix of patrons from corporate power brokers to lunching mums.
The menu offers a range of dishes and you can choose something light or go for a full three course meal. Start with the anatra (arancini of roasted duck with a tomato salsa) or the carpaccio (thinly sliced fillet of kingfish with capers, lemon and extra virgin olive oil). Follow with the linguini (linguini with calamari, wild rocket, garlic and extra virgin olive oil) or the bistecca (beef medallions with Swiss brown mushrooms, sauteed spinach and a porcini glaze). For dessert don't go past the affogato (house-made vanilla bean ice-cream with a shot of espresso coffee). If you're game, finish with a cigar from the choice on display at the bar.
