Belgian Beer Cafe Oostende
Editorial
Those Belgians; they certainly know how to set up a bar - it's virtually a national obsession. Sort of like sports over here. Or not paying taxes in Italy. The Belgians have gotten so good at the faux 1930's beer hall game, they've franchised the concept around the world. Wander into any major international city and you can sit down to some hearty Belgian food and a beer prepared in an overly elaborate way. Adelaide is no exception.
If you've been to one Belgian Beer Cafe then you'll know what to expect when it comes to food and drink options. As the name suggests, it's all about the beers and there's an extensive selection of European imports available, both on-tap and bottled. If you do go for the on-tap option you'll get that little performance the staff do where they clean each individual glass and shave the foam off the top. If nothing else, it helps justify the mark-up.
The decor is exactly what you'd expect from the Belgian Beer Cafe Oostende - a relaxed, 1930's style throwback. It's restrained and warm, even if all the furnishings are sourced from a warehouse somewhere in the US (or wherever they come from). If you head upstairs you'll find a cocktail lounge that melds contemporary influences with the more traditional look in the rest of the venue.
While the Belgian Beer Cafe concept has lost some of its sheen in recent years, those looking for a good beer in an upmarket establishment can rely on the franchise for both the quality of its service and selection.

Fantastic! The Belgian Beer Cafe Oostende is a wonderful place to be. The beer pouring is impressive and the mussel dish is by far the best in South Australia, with the brilliant friendly staff and classy, fun atmosphere it will be impossible for you not to have a great time! 10/10
