Bar on Gouger
Editorial
Bar on Gouger is like your favourite armchair. It might not be the flashest thing ever, and it's seen a few years, but it's so damn comfortable and familiar. What this Adelaide venue might lack in cutting-edge sophistication it more than makes up for with casual atmosphere and oversized couches. And the couches really do deserve a special mention - they're large, plush and look like they were designed for sleeping in while watching Two And A Half Men.
A long, traditional bar is located opposite the lounge area and the drink selection is as comforting as the decor. Bar on Gouger specialise in beers and you'll find a large selection of local, imported and boutique ales on offer. The wine and spirits also hold their own - helped by the fact there's a bottleshop adjacent to the main bar. An outdoor beer garden and weekly pub specials mean you can pick up a pizza and beer for $10 - not bad in these economic times. Drop in on a weekend afternoon and you'll find an acoustic duo playing live originals and covers.
While it might not push the envelope, Bar on Gouger is intimate and friendly, a bar without any pretence, where you can enjoy a cold beer.
