Arab Steed Hotel
Editorial
The Arab Steed Hotel is one of Adelaide's oldest licensed venues, its history dating back to 1849 and a time when dinosaurs still roamed the earth. 160 years later it's a local institution, a traditional corner pub with a host of regulars and a no-thrills approach to drinking beers. The decor may have been updated and the venue renovated extensively over the years, but it still retains plenty of its 19th century charm. The stained-glass windows in the front bar are a pretty good indication the Arab has been around for a while. Meanwhile, the bar itself is massive wooden structure - a forest's worth of timber.
Drinks at the Arab are what you would expect from a local pub. There's a selection of local and imported beers on tap accompanied by the usual spirits and a few house wines. It might not be anything to get excited about, but the prices are reasonable, the drinks are cold and there are over 20 bottled beers to choose from. The service, meanwhile, is friendly and relaxed, an attitude that extends to the whole pub. You'll find a real mix of characters milling around on any given day - seasoned regulars, suits on their lunch breaks and students. Essentially, this is a no fuss local, ideal for that afternoon pint or cheap counter meal.
