Royal Exchange Hotel
Editorial
Toowong's Royal Exchange Hotel prides itself on being "Queensland's favourite student destination". This dubious claim to fame should really tell you all you need to know. For one thing, if you're not a student, then do yourself a favour and don't bloody go.
It's basically several big tin sheds arranged around a central mosh pit, with cheap beer and live music almost all the time. Full of boozed up kids with high hormones, there's a revolving procession of themed parties, from toga to beach to pyjama. Common theme: minimal clothing.
All class must be left at the door. There are plenty of big screens for live sports and cheap pub grub on the go too, including $12 parma night. There aren't many places that plough on through till 2am on a Sunday night, especially when they reopen at 10am the next day (heaven help the poor cleaners) so if you're having one of those trashy weekends and just don't know when to stop and go home, the Royal Exchange could be just the right meat market for you!
