Just a 15-minute drive west of town sees you in a plant-lovers nirvana. The Botanic Gardens of Mount Coot-tha has wonderful themed sections including a scented garden, a bamboo grove, an arid zone with a cactus garden, Japanese gardens, waterfalls, rainforest terraces and a magnificent domed greenhouse for tropical plants. And for the avid green thumbs there is a specialist garden library available where all your plant-related questions are more than welcome. Other attractions include the planetarium at the Mt Cootha Lookout, the nearby JC Slaughter Falls, the Hide 'n' Seek children's Trail and the Freedom Wall. Whew! After all that you'll need to relax in the Curator's Cottage with a coffee!
