Merivale's Bar
Editorial
While the name itself may hark back to ye olde England, Merivale's Bar is a gentle way to ease into that all-important power lunch (read: liquid lunch) or to ready yourself for the weekend ahead. Located in the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the bar gets a steady stream of traffic from the many and various conventions and expos that rotate through the venue. But don't let the location or the image fool you. This is a bar, seriously dedicated to fine wines and premium spirits.
The wine list at Merivale's comprises an impressive list of Australian drops, with a few obligatory New Zealand wines for colour, plus the addition of a dedicated list of Queensland wines. The price range is quite accommodating of any wallet size, making this the perfect place to schmooze that prospective client. The beer list reads like a tried and tested book - locals like VB, Boags and Crown share the lime light with Asahi, Stella and Guinness. And while there isn't really a cocktail list, the staff are more than eager to mix up a treat.
You'll also be pleased to know that Merivale's also offers an extensive dinner menu. Impress that date with a plate of roast loin of veal or some poached salmon, as you regale them with tales of hostile takeovers and corporate highflying.
