There are over a million items and specimens included in the collection of stuff housed at the Queensland Museum – so you might want to leave the entire day free to check it all out!

Editorial

For almost 150 years, the Queensland Museum has been telling the story of the sunshine state through its history of people, culture, animals, environment and geology (rocks), and has now expanded into five separate campuses (including three in regional QLD).

Crowd favourites include the outdoor Dinosaur Garden, complete with life-size replicas of everybody's favourite dinosaurs, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops (there's even a mould of a dinosaur stampede in the museum), plus skeletal casts of other species of these mighty creatures who once ruled in this part of Oz about 250 million years ago. If you're a war buff, 'Mephisto' a German A7V Tank captured by Australian troops during WW1 is a must-see.

A visit to the Queensland allows you to explore everything from insects and fossils to the indigenous culture of Queensland through to inventions and the history of transport and innovation. The museum does things well for kids, and the school holiday programs are a great combo of education and fun. There's also a Museum café and gift store on the premises and plenty of lectures and guided talks on to help you navigate your way through the awesome collection. And best of all - it's free!
