Sonomas of Sandgate
Editorial
Sonomas is part of the up and coming gentrification that is sweeping the Shorncliffe and Sandgate foreshore. Shorncliffe has developed a prestige about it in recent years, bringing with it impressive housing and businesses that have a touch of class and style. Sonomas is one of the latter, overlooking the million-dollar upgrade on the foreshore which has improved the look and the view from Flinders Parade. Comfortable and chic leather couches and ottomans adorn the veranda and provide a serene view of the surroundings. The sandstone front entrance opens onto a dining room, small bar and most importantly the friendly faces of owners David and Nikki Balish, who always offer a warm welcome.
The menu is modern Italian, and the combination of the fresh salty air, combined with the aroma of sauteed garlic and the dew lined sparkle of a good glass of wine, are forces to be reckoned with. For starters choose from one of the unique bruschettas, either white anchovy, roasted garlic and rosemary; or chorizo, grilled haloumi and chilli plum jam. Mains offer char grilled eye fillet steak topped with a Swiss mushroom and gorgonzola sauce; or sea scallops, pesto and lemon wrapped in veal and served with a citrus butter. There are delectable pizzas and a huge range of pastas to choose from. Sonomas is looking toward a new future for Shorncliffe and they are doing it in style.

Sonomas is a good location and the atmosphere was casual, menu had a lot of variety, some dishes left to be desired, like the sandcrab lasagne. I don't know where the sandcrab was but it was definitly nowhere to be seen in the six layers of pasta, it was awful, definitly not worth the $25. Service was average as well, some of the other pastas were nice and some were very watery and lacked flavour, and need to be reduced in price, not somewhere we would return unfortunatly...5 out of 10
