Sassafras

places|qld|paddington|sassafras
Sassafras is Australian for 'place of many delicious and quirky things' - well at least in our vocabulary it is. We serve breakfast (till 2pm), lunch and cake seven days a week in a much-loved Paddington wheatherborad cottage. inside you'll find a mix of solid timber furniture, retro kitchen chairs, bookie paraphernalia, old-fashioned mixmasters and a colourful wall of take-home T2 tea and teapot characteres.

Located on Latrobe Terrace, Sassafras is a popular cafe for breakfast and lunchtime treats. Boasting some of Brisbane's best coffee, it is no wonder this small yet homely and inviting cafe has people returning time and time again. The interior of Sassafras personifies what the cafe is about, offering a comfortably vibrant and buzzing atmosphere. There are two main seated dining areas inside, and a fantastic courtyard (especially during summer) which is perfect for mornings. There is plenty to choose from when it comes to the creatively prepared dishes of the menu, too.
After speaking with owner Peter, it becomes clear that fresh wholefoods are an integral part of the Sassafras' menu. Being a big breakfast fan I would have to say from personal experience that Sassafras is hands down one of the best breakfast joints in Brisbane. The lunchtime menu is also a giant hit and it's often a squeeze during the midday rush so best to get in early. There are so many items on offer it is really hard to make a concise recommendation except to suggest that you check it out for yourself. At dusk, the barbecues come out for alfresco evening dining. If you are a Brisbane local you will no doubt be familiar with Sassafras and if you aren't, you should be. For great, friendly service, unbeatable breakfasts and hearty lunchtime flavours, Sassafras is a must.
