Hot Wok Cafe
Editorial
A simple Asian eatery among the quaint shophouses of Given Terrace, Hot Wok is a top spot for a quick, healthy and delicious meal –fast food the way should be. Inside, tables are topped with rice bowls and chopsticks and the room is oddly decorated with random knick-knacks including Chinese lanterns, cowboy hats and miniature wooden birdcages hanging from the ceiling. Just past the open kitchen is the back veranda with a few tables offering leafy views of the surrounding suburbs.
Choose dishes from the pan-Asian menu or create your own stir fry from the selection of noodles, sauces, meat and fresh vegetables on display at the kitchen counter. Chinese chef Wah Yang whips up all the family favourites along with a few special inventions. Seafood dishes like the Singapore chilli Moreton Bay bugs and salt and pepper sand crab are an absolute steal at these prices. There are also Thai curries, Chinese-style barbecue spare ribs and on the Malaysian side of things, satay and laksa. Other stand-outs include braised duck with Chinese mushrooms and stuffed king prawns with XO sauce. Of course you’re welcome to take your leftovers with you, if only to re-assure yourself that your dollar still does go far in some places. Cheap and cheerful indeed.
