Himalayan Cafe
Editorial
Established in New Farm for over a decade, Himalayan Cafe is much loved among locals and regular diners alike. The cuisine bursts with flavour and is a must for anyone who appreciates the style of food which the Nepalese are renowned for. Treat yourself to a traditional Himalayan bread with a yoghurt and mint dipping sauce. Many declare it to be most delicious starter bread ever eaten. A favourite dish among patrons also is the bakhara with tender cubes of goat lightly marinated with ginger, garlic paste and Himalayan spices cooked with potato and pumpkin and served with jasmine rice. The menu is extensive and it also amply caters for vegetarian tastes. Head chef, Purna, has been cooking for 25 years and he is dedicated to using the freshest of daily vegetables and spices. It is essential to book ahead as the restaurant fills up regularly. An added bonus is that Himalayan Cafe is BYO.

Fabulous atmosphere, food, service and value! No corkage if less than 10 people was a bonus as were the very reasonable prices ($12-$20 mains). You have to try the Himalayan bread with dipping sauce to start with! Heard there is a dining room at the back with low sitting tables, sounds very authentic but didn't try it. It was the atmosphere that got me, as soon as I walked past the place on the way to somewhere else, lets just say I didn't make it to my intended destination!
