Active for ten years plus, the Brisbane Powerhouse is at the forefront of the contemporary performance and visual arts scene.

Editorial

This redeveloped industrial site, subsidised by Brisbane City Council, is custom-built to charge the senses with a year-long program of provocative theatre and dance, challenging film, contemporary music concerts and exhibitions. But it's not all arty-farty. There is plenty of fun to be had at the Powerhouse with an array of quirky free public sculptural works and exhibitions and local grown and interstate stand up comedy.

The Powerhouse is the home of the relatively new Brisbane Comedy Festival and along with the provocative Brisbane Queer Film Festival. The Powerhouse theatre program will be of particular interest to the discerning Gen Y'ers with new productions of Shakespeare sitting along side Shakespeare inspired new works such as Brave New World Order by Clarry Evans and Brett Heath.

Foodies should take note of the Powerhouse Farmers Markets, held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month and featuring seasonal and organic produce from around the state. Other culinary delights at the Powerhouse include Bar Alto, winner of a Brisbane Good Food Chefs Hat and Watt Modern Dining, offering an alfresco riverside dining dining experience.
