The Star Anise symbol welcomes those in the know to a safe house for the secret society of liquorice lovers.

Editorial

Anise is one of Brisbane's most popular bar/restaurant combinations. While the French-inspired cuisine and wine selection is world class, it's the intimate setting that really seals the deal. The very definition of hole-in-the-wall, Anise can only hold 10-15 people at any given time and all meals/drinks are served around the bar. It makes for a very friendly, very communal atmosphere, and is popular with group bookings.

Whether you're there for a three-course meal or casual drinks, Anise is filled with European charm. Pull up a seat at the bar and you're greeted with old poster prints and a wall of wines. They take their wine seriously and you can choose from over 300 local and imported options. The wine board is constantly changing and offers a selection of rare wines by the glass. The cocktails enjoy a similar rotation, with specials changing on a week-to-week basis. Meanwhile, Absinthe is a house speciality and is prepared with all the skill and spectacle you'd expect from the French.

Anise may be small but it's full of personality. Basically, there's nothing else quite like it in Brisbane and the place is regularly booked out weeks in advance. That said, if you're just after a night of cocktails and wine, you can usually find room at the bar later in the evening.
