The Manly Hotel
Editorial
Manly Hotel is where Brisbane meets the Bay. It's also where the Bay goes for a social drink, a casual dinner and checks out some live entertainment. A large, multifaceted venue, it features several bars, a beer garden, gaming lounge and TAB. Plenty for the locals to choose from, and more than enough for folks just passing through.
The hotel's foundations were laid in 1954 and it's become a bay area institution in the intervening 50 years and change. The beer garden is a favourite on weekends and gets packed early in the evening. Alternatively, you can check out some live music on most nights. Everything from funk and soul through to classic pub rock are showcased thanks to a robust booking policy.
It may have expanded rapidly over the last decade, but the hotel's pub origins still shine through when it comes to drinks. Beer is the preferred option and there's a good selection available on tap. Cocktails and wines are on hand in the bars but they're really more of an afterthought. Nothing wrong with them, but it's just not that kind of party. What it is, is a lovely local - the sort of place where, to quote a certain Ted Danson sitcom, "everybody knows your name".
