Finnigan's Chin
Editorial
The Australian fascination with Irish Pubs certainly is an interesting one - when was the last time you saw a Scottish pub? And what about the poor Welsh? Surely their Inn keepers are capable of pouring a frothy ale with as much skill as their Irish counterparts. But for the time being Irish Pubs are the dominant force, and Finn MacCools is straight out of the text book. Situated in the car park of the Great Western Super Centre in Keperra, Finn's deep green exterior stands out in the best possible way from the drab architectural splendour that only suburban shopping centres seem to be able to get away with.
All of the compulsory boxes are checked off: Guinness and Kilkenny on tap alongside the usual local brews; dry bars made of barrels if you want to see and be seen, or booths nestled into the deep recesses of the premises should comfortable seats and more involved storytelling take your fancy. The decor ranges from the traditional (castle murals and display cabinets of Irish musical instruments) to the bizarre - the carved timber figureheads of what might be possessed camels which surround the main floor of the bar have to be seen to be believed!
Vibe-wise Finn's is as relaxed as you'd expect. The kitchen offers up $9.95 weekly specials on T-Bones (Tuesday) and Chicken Schnitzel (Thursday), which will surely fill the gap during a lazy afternoon session watching sport from around the world on the two big screens inside. And if you stick around on Thursdays you could even give the lungs a work-out at Krazy Kathy's Karaoke - chances are you'd be on a clear winner with Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl.

This is my local. The food is a cut above many pubs; if you've got room, the desserts are often a little different e.g. the scrummy raspberry lamingtons produced for Australia Day. Daily specials are good and the service personal.
