Brisbane Jazz Club
Editorial
Brisbane Jazz Club is a local institution. First opening its doors in 1972, this riverside venue has kept Brisbane jazz music alive for the last four decades. While the building is little more than a converted town hall, the modest exterior hides one of the city's most unique nights. And some spectacular river views once you make it inside.
Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the venue offers a mix of local, intestate and international bands. That basic formula hasn't changed throughout the years and this small riverside venue has played host to various industry legends during its time. Like the building itself, the converted interior is modest but charming. For the most part it has long tables for people to share surrounding a main dancefloor. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
Drinks are also of the efficient rather than spectacular variety, but you can purchase decanters of wine for a very reasonable price, which will soon get you nodding your head or out on to the dancefloor. Failing that, they offer beers and basic spirits. Still, it's all about the atmosphere and the live jazz, something Brisbane Jazz Club offers in droves.
