The Sports Bar
Editorial
Part of the mighty Jindalee Entertainment Venue, The sports Bar is all things sport to any diehard sport fan. And what can one expect from a bar named The Sports Bar? Pool tables? Check. Plasma TVs screening sporting events beamed in from across the globe? Check. Enough beer to sink a Communist regime? Check. Yes, there really is not a lot more you'd need at this bar. And although it may feel like a bit of a casino (notice how gaming venues are now shying away from the term?), the atmosphere is suitable enough to drop in with a bunch of mates on any night out. Hey, beer and pool and now second to a dog as Man's best friend.
Cutting to the chase, the tap and bottled beer selection has more variety than the Sultan of Brunei's bar fridge. James Boags, Stella, Guinness, Carlton Draught, VB, Heineken, Red Back, Mountain Goat and many more hold up the ranks. There's also a wine list comprised of mostly (and proudly) Australian drops, with the odd New Zealand white thrown in. Cocktails tend to the more celebratory assortment, with cosmos, sea breezes and daiquiris keeping drinkers happy.
Every Saturday is race day at the Sports Bar, with live meets across the nation shown on the various big screens dotted around the place. If you're not into dogs, ponies or trots, then you might want to look elsewhere for a lazy Saturday. There's also an in-house TAB for those moments when you feel like indulging in a spot of vice. And when you're between races, the beer garden outside makes the ideal place to mull over your form guide. Just make sure you gamble like you drink; in moderation.
