A standout among the Racecourse Road faves, this casual Greek eatery specialises in traditional fare with a modern twist. The sunny balcony provides a perfect vantage for people watching.

Editorial

This modern Greek taverna, located on the exclusive Racecourse Road among cafes and delicatessens, has a sunny disposition and oozes charm – from the classic French-style cane seating on the alfresco balcony, to the plush couches and furnishings stretching back past the bar into the restaurant proper. The welcoming feel of the place is instantly reinforced by floor staff that are friendly, attentive and professional. Every whim seems to be anticipated in advance and coupled with a smile.

The fare at Kamiros consists of traditional and modern Greek dishes using quality ingredients and a touch of the wow factor. The dishes are visually impressive, using fresh garnishes and inventive designs to impress – no limp salad leaves here. I began with the dolmathes, a dish of aromatic beef, rice, onion and fresh herbs wrapped in vine leaves and served with avgolemone sauce that’s delightful in both flavour and texture. Choose from traditional favourites such as moussaka or souvlaki, or perhaps the xifas (pan-fried swordfish cutlet served with a smoked eggplant and mixed capsicum compote on kumara mash and finished with a savoury capsicum coulis). For the less traditional, there are pasta dishes available and an award-winning Terrarossa rib eye steak.
