The Wickham Hotel certainly stands out. This beautiful traditional Queenslander hotel features striking lattice work on its two-storey balconied facade, and then, just in case you weren't sure which bar it was, a gigantic neon blue sign informing you it is, indeed, the Wickham.
One of the major gay venues on Brisbane's scene, this one tends to draw them inside in droves at the weekends. There are no thrills here. The main room is a big, almost daggy dance floor, complete with miniature Saturday Night Fever underlit platform for the pole dancing show-offs amongst you.
This leads off almost unbelievably into a full-on pokie room next door. Never in all my years have I seen the attraction to these things, especially while out gay clubbing, but hey, it seems to be fairly busy and has its own bar too. You can also hire a private bar upstairs for parties if you so choose.
It's not a cocktail joint, with the focus on a basic but cheap range of beers and your basic spirits. It's not fancy, but the bar staff are friendly, there's a pool table to be had and the crowds do get busy. So if you just want somewhere central to party on, it's not a bad choice.
