Located at the top of the Brunswick Street Mall, in Fortitude Valley, the Royal George Hotel is positioned alongside the busiest thoroughfare in Brisbane. To help keep up with the crowds, they've adopted an unashamedly mainstream approach. Incorporating a large outdoor beer garden, lounge, public bar and dancefloor, the RG is designed to appeal to the widest audience possible. Given the surging crowds that can be found on weekends and weekdays, it's obviously working.
The beer garden fronts onto the Valley Mall and offers a no-thrills approach to drinking. While the decor and furniture could be described as basic, the combination of cheap meals ($5 steak), reasonably priced beers and front-row view of the Valley's insanity are a hard act to beat. Inside, you'll find a contemporary public bar that backs onto a lounge section. While quiet and casual during the day, things pick up quickly on Friday afternoons. The adjacent dancefloor is best reserved for the brave.
Although beers make up the bulk of alcohol sales at the Royal George (it's a 'buy a jug to share' kind of place), they actually provide a full selection of alcohol to get your evening started right. Aside from the usual selection of spirits and wines, they also offer a complete cocktail menu - including a Long Island Iced Tea topped with Red Bull. Just the thing to deal with the crowds.

Whilst the general perception of Karaoke is often one of drunken,tone deaf wannabes singing out of tune....Wednesday Karaoke at the RG is often honoured with professional singers and band members entertaining the crowd after having finished their own gigs.Consistently..the RG is the busiest bar in the Valley on Wednesday nights,often outdoing all other forms of entertainment(including Bands) in the area and Karaoke manages to maintain a pretty well a full bar for 5hrs straight!..."inflict"?...no
