The Valley is known as the place to go for (among other things) entertainment and alcohol - our city's most famous and infamous nightspots rest within this natural carving of cement and metal. And no more so than the GPO. After a hefty makeover this hotel has reinvented itself as the style capital of the Valley, pushing cocktails to the fashion conscious and heavy dancefloor beats to those who like to get sweaty.
The heritage exterior belies the modern design elements present inside, with dark tiles offset by bright feature walls and clean spot lighting. It's an ambience steeped in style, without being too fussy. Two bars are yours for the choosing, with upstairs offering the more club-styled alternative, Code. Ascend the stairs if you're after the latest house and electro tracks from the GPO's resident DJs and guests. Or lounge downstairs for a more casual, and conversation-friendly, vibe.
The bar puts on a large range of Australian and imported beers, with many available on tap. But the GPO staff pride themselves on their cocktail mixing abilities, so go ahead and put them to the test. Try a Cosmo if you're after a reliable tongue loosener, or a Long Island Ice Tea if you don't plan on going elsewhere for the evening.
