Citysearch® 2010 Best in the City Winner: Best Queer Night Out.
It is refreshing that in this era of gay clubs tending towards names that imply an overt hyper-masculinity or hyper-sexuality, that someone has had the balls to call a gay night, Fluffy. While the name may suggest a lightweight night out, Fluffy is not for the faint of heart - here dance is king and punters take the dance floor very seriously.
Fluffy, which is housed at Family, is the ideal venue for the show pony. The large bar conveniently has bar stools which look out over the dance floor, which means those gettin' down always have an audience. The podiums are popular too. However, what gets even the most reluctant dancer onto the floor are the dance troupes who perform their high energy shows throughout the night. Shows featuring Brisbane's most glamorous showgirl, Alexei Paige, are the highlight of the evening. The DJ line-up is strong and there are often guest appearances from interstate and international DJs. The venue itself is three floors of mega-party. The state-of-the-art sound system gets a full work out at Fluffy, as does the dynamic light shows.
Most Sundays there's a good mixed crowd and surprisingly very little attitude. Regular theme nights mean dressing up and costumes are most welcome. A great night out combined with a great work… what more could you ask for?
