Emporium Hotel

If I wanted to show an out-of-towner the new kind of hip Brisbane is becoming famous for, I’d take them straight to the cocktail bar at the Emporium, order a fabulous cocktail and settle into some serious people watching in the city’s coolest transit lounge.

Editorial

Located in Fortitude Valley (or 'The Valley' as the locals are wont to say) is the very rockstar Emporium Hotel, and inside that very rockstar hotel lies a cocktail bar suited to…well rockstars and the fashionable crowd that tends to follow.

The Emporium cocktail bar is the embodiment of Brisbane's shock of the new subculture: brash, opulent, confident and no longer content to be junior bridesmaid to the other cities - these days Brisbane is more Lindsay Lohan than Delta Goodrem. With a décor that looks every bit the glamorous magazine spread it is, it's probably safe to say this isn't the type of bar to let the kids run free while you enjoy a glass of house chardy and a bowl of wedges.

This is a sexy place, and those who visit dress and act accordingly as they lounge about on custom-designed furniture sourced from all corners of the globe, and look fabulous in between sips of sophisticated cocktails. With gold, silver, red and black competing for attention, an antique German chandelier presides over a fabulous onyx horseshoe bar staffed by knowledgeable bartenders famous for discretion, and the ability to create the perfect drink suited to your every need and occasion.

A one hundred year-old stained glass window imported from Paris is another showstopping feature, and is lovely to admire as you listen to sophisticated tinkling on the obligatory baby grand piano.

Try an Exquisite Garden, the house specialty, washed down with a selection from an impressive tapas menu. And for those that like their cocktail experience in the daytime hours, the Emporium also serves High Tea - complete with a Bonnie Fizz - the perfect cocktail accompaniment to cakes and perfectly cut sandwiches.

A visit to the cocktail bar at the Emporium Hotel is a Brisbane experience not to be missed - as you never know who you're likely to meet and what excitement that might lead to!
