Rev up your appetites for this cool and casual cafe in the heart of Brisbane's CBD.

Editorial

Rev up your appetites. The centrepiece of this bright CBD cafe is a big BMW touring motorcycle (which finds itself used as a coat rack more often than a road machine). Despite this slight indignity, the bike might be the management's way of saying this cafe has more guts than the all the trendy little latte-on-my-Vespa-to-go cafes that have cropped up in recent years. Vroom is certainly very popular, not least because it serves some very good Italian-inflected food, and an excellent espresso.

There's a pleasingly varied menu, reasonably priced and served in portions that would satisfy a bikie. A great breakfast menu includes healthy options for those trying to avoid fry-ups. Try a low GI start to the day with scrambled egg whites, fresh tomatoes, eschalots and avocado on sourdough toast with a banana, honey and cinnamon smoothie. Later in the day the fare takes on a Mediterranean lean where, in addition to the usual Turkish sandwiches and salads, there are pastas like crab lasagne with crustacean and cream reduction and dill caper salsa. Braised lamb shank with sweet potato puree and muscatel jus is a popular option and for dessert there's butterscotch brulee with praline crumble. If you're after something with a little more kick than a protein shake, Vroom is licensed with a surprisingly good wine list.
